Jon Van de Grift: Welcome! I'm an earth scientist by training, and a teacher and photojournalist by trade. I received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Certificate of Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I continued my education at the Ohio University where I studied natural hazards and visual communications and earned a Master of Arts degree. Today, my photographs appear in books, television, national imagery collections, government publications, and other media.

Natural hazards have always been my passion and their tragedies have always been my frustration. Through improved visualization, I believe we can gain a better understanding of how they work and how we can live with them. My photography works to this end.
